On a December 19 announcement, Web3 game publisher Immutable has launched its new wallet infrastructure, known as “Immutable Passport”. This novel method enables users to create and recover their wallet through a Google or an Apple account or by an email address.
Five games and apps, including Gods Unchained, Blocklete Golf, B/R Watch 2 Earn, TokenTrove, and AtomicHub, have already implemented Immutable Passport, catering to a user base of over 500,000.
The publisher has also debuted a dashboard for a seamless user experience, allowing players to discover new games, manage funds, link third-party wallets, and handle in-game items, as the announcement stated.
In an August blog post, Immutable revealed a consumer study, claiming that gamers are twice as likely to sign up for a wallet using Immutable Passport versus a traditional wallet, and this could be attributed to the benefits of Immutable Passport. In an interview in May, Immutable explained how Passport secures users’ funds when they sign up using an email address by implementing the Magic software development kit. This kit generates a private key whenever a user logs in for the first time, then it is encrypted and sent to an Amazon Web Services Hardware Security Module (HSM), where it is stored afterward. Immutable and Magic have no access to this key, as it is controlled via a device-specific token sent to the user through email. Therefore, Passport can be considered a “noncustodial” login solution, not requiring the user to trust Immutable with their funds.
The launch of Passport follows Immutable’s commitment to making Web3 gaming more convenient for players, with recent Transak integration on December 11 and plans for gas-free transactions for zkEVM platform in 2024.
