Arbitrum, a layer-2 blockchain network, has unveiled its Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP) to foster the development of Web3 gaming. With a proposed allocation of 200 million ARB tokens, valued at approximately $426 million, the GCP aims to propel Arbitrum to the forefront of on-chain gaming.
The GCP seeks to cultivate a thriving gaming ecosystem on the Arbitrum network over a two-year period. It emphasises onboarding and supporting high-quality game builders to establish Arbitrum as the premier choice for game development across the Web3 landscape.
Key objectives of the GCP include:
- Coinvesting in promising studios and games to incentivize development on Arbitrum.
- Establishing Arbitrum as the leading platform for on-chain gaming.
- Attracting 200 to 300 builder applications.
- Encouraging 20% or more of Web3 games to choose Arbitrum as their base network.
- Launching 25 new Orbit projects.
- Facilitating net migrations to Arbitrum compared to other layer-2 networks.
Additionally, the proposal allocates 40 million ARB for infrastructure bounties, supporting tooling and infrastructure necessary for gaming within Arbitrum.
The announcement of the GCP coincides with Arbitrum’s scheduled ARB token unlock, with 673.5 million tokens set to be released on March 16. This unlock, part of a larger release of 1.1 billion tokens, underscores Arbitrum’s commitment to advancing its ecosystem and fostering innovation in Web3 gaming.
As Arbitrum prepares to embark on this ambitious journey, the GCP represents a significant initiative to ignite growth and innovation within the Web3 gaming space while solidifying Arbitrum’s position as a leading blockchain platform for gaming development.
