Indeed, according to a tweet sent out on April 19 by non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and metaverse trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis, the United States Air Force (USAF) has submitted a trademark application for SPACEVERSE, a “secure digital metaverse.”
In an application filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on April 14, 2022, the SPACEVERSE is described as “a secure digital metaverse that converges terrestrial and space physical and digital realities and provides synthetic and simulated extended-reality (XR) training, testing, and operations environments.”

What exactly is the metaverse?
The metaverse, by definition, is a computer-generated, virtual- or extended-reality environment in which people can socialise, interact, work, play, or, in the case of the SPACEVERSE, train their abilities.
It’s worth noting that the number of metaverse and NFT-related trademark filings to the USPTO increased 421-fold in 2021 alone, a dramatic increase compared to only three in 2020, and the trend is expected to continue well into 2022.
2 weeks before the USAF filing, Mastercard International had also filed up to fifteen new trademark applications to register Mastercard, its “Circles” logo, and the “Priceless” slogan.
The global payment facilitator is planning for NFT-backed media, digital goods marketplaces, e-commerce transactions, and payment processing in the metaverse.
Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has filed multiple trademark applications to register its logo, signalling the platform’s intention to expand into a variety of crypto and virtual products and services, including cryptocurrencies, tokens, crypto trading, cryptocurrency exchanges, and blockchain software.
Pop star Billie Eilish, energy giant Chevron, and food industry giants KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut have also joined in the space.
