Phantom, one of the most popular Solana wallets, has announced the official release of its Android app. The latest development comes on the heels of the company’s previous release of an iOS mobile app in 2022.
Phantom announced in a twitter thread on Monday (April 18, 2022) that customers can now download the Phantom mobile app via the Google Play store. This means they can transfer, receive, exchange, stake, earn, and store crypto and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on any Android phone.
According to a blog post:
“Newly released features on Phantom such as push notifications and our enhanced ‘Recent Activity’ tab are also live on Android at launch.”
Phantom went on to say that there was a lot of interest from the community during the beta phase, with over 50,000 people taking part in the application’s testing.
In addition, the press release stated that Phantom has seen increased adoption on Android from users in Vietnam, India, and Indonesia.
Phantom announced plans to launch a mobile version of its wallet in November 2021. Later that month, co-founder and CEO Brandon Millman stated that, while the team is focusing on a mobile app, there are plans to “add more NFT specific features, like being able to buy and sell NFTs.”
Meanwhile, the Android launch comes just a few months after the Solana-based crypto wallet debuted its iOS mobile app in February 2022. Phantom also achieved unicorn status after raising $109 million in Series B funding from investors including Paradigm, Andreessen Horowitz, Variant, and Jump Capital.
With the release of the Phantom app on both iOS and Android, the blog post stated that innovative features centred on NFTs could be available in the coming months.
