Since Friday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has taken to Twitter to ask his followers and anyone else who shares his concerns to take part in a survey to determine whether the social media platform “rigorously adheres to the idea that “free speech is essential to a functioning democracy.”
Musk later tweeted, “the consequences of this poll will be important, please vote carefully,” after he posted the poll. This suggests he may buy the social media app if his poll wins, which as of this writing, currently has over 70% of respondents voting no.
Musk seems to have established himself as a household individual in the crypto sector, owing primarily to his crypto-related banters that has been interpreted as market manipulation. He has always been an extremely controversial public figure, especially when it comes to protecting his or others’ freedom.
This was evident in his recent decision to send a dozen Starlink devices to Ukraine to assist this country fight against the Kremlin’s attempt to cut off internet connectivity in Ukraine during the ongoing conflict.
Doge tipping feature on Twitter
The tweet currently has over 30,000 responses and people are calling for Musk to buy Twitter or to start a new social media platform of his own. Dogecoin is also mentioned as a desirable feature that they expect to be available on Twitter if this billionaire becomes the new Twitter owner.
“One of the best things about Elon Musk either buying Twitter or starting his own platform is you know there would be a dogecoin tip jar!” Steven Steele, a YouTuber who has a crypto discussion channel about meme coins like dogecoin and Shiba Inu, wrote. Elon Musk responded almost instantly with “100%,” causing the doge army to go into a frenzy.
“Free speech is more important than most people even realize.” Matt Wallace, a top doge Shiller commented.
Musk has been vocal about his support for Dogecoin over the last year. Aside from claiming that dogecoin is a more sustainable and environmentally friendly cryptocurrency than bitcoin, Tesla has recently begun accepting the canine coin for its merchandise, with several other companies, including AMC, also accepting the canine coin for movie tickets and confectionery.
Twitter, on the other hand, has recently established a tip jar for bitcoin and Ethereum users, allowing them to donate money to creators who provide insights on the social media app.
Musk’s inclusion of Dogecoin in Twitter’s tipping feature may thus serve as a stimulus for the meme coin to reach new highs. DOGE is currently trading at $0.1496, up 14.93% in the last 7 days.
