Despite the deflation of metaverse hysteria and the decline in trading volume of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in Q2, 2022, organisations, businesses, and personalities from across the world continue to register for the metaverse-related trademarks.
According to attorney Mike Kondoudis, who tweeted the news on August 11, the Spanish football teams FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF submitted a joint application for a bitcoin and metaverse trademark.
On August 5, the El Clásico opponents filed trademarks for virtual reality games, non-downloadable virtual clothes, footwear, headgear, blockchain transaction management software, e-wallet software, and more.
Football powerhouses REAL MADRID and BARCELONA have filed a joint trademark application covering:

Additional football entries to the metaverse
Meanwhile, these two football titans are hardly the first to join the burgeoning space. Early in July, the British football club Crystal Palace registered a trademark for its crest, encompassing non-fungible tokens, cryptocurrencies, crypto exchanges, virtual clothes, sportswear, and more.
In addition, the French football giant Paris Saint-Germain joined the NFT bandwagon at the end of March when it applied for NFT-backed multimedia, virtual clothes, sportswear, electronics, crypto wallets, and crypto transaction management.
David Beckham is among the football players who have entered the NFT industry. In April, he submitted three trademark applications for NFTs, digital tokens, virtual apparel, footwear, and virtual events.
Early in June, the English Premier League (EPL) submitted two trademark applications to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its name and “lion head” and “loving cup trophy” logo.
In late June, Cristiano Ronaldo inked an exclusive NFT agreement with crypto exchange Binance to build many NFT products on the platform.
